MHS Students and Staff Braid Bread with “Challah Prince” Idan Chabasov

Earlier in March, Minnetonka High School students had the unique opportunity to learn how to braid loaves of challah bread with the Challah Prince, an internationally-known challah artist dedicated to bringing art into the baking world.

More than 200 high school students and staff members from across the district participated in the event, where they not only learned how to braid

with five, ten or eleven strands of dough, but were able to bring home their own loaf of challah to bake in their own kitchens. Organized as a community-building event during the Jewish holiday of Purim, the event was hosted by Israeli challah artist, Idan Chabasov, who goes by the name @challahprince on Instagram. Since the creation of his account in early 2020, he has grown to have a following of over one hundred thousand on the app.

Known for his intricate braiding designs, the Challah Prince shared tips and advice with those at the event. From traditionally braided loaf shapes to octopi, he has created a wide variety of designs since first starting his account. At the event, students learned how to braid a 5 strand challah into the shape of a mustache.

The event was an opportunity for students and staff to learn together and build community.
